Miss Dolly!!! Well what can I say, other than for those that did not follow our journey on Facebook <3 We had long anticipated the arrival of Dolly... Dolly was conceived amidst Covid-19 her Momma, Rosie was paired with Bentley (also the father of Dune!). Although, we had hoped for a nice sized litter... we were beyond shocked when our vet check up indicated only one puppy... This is worrisome, as when carrying only one puppy they can grow larger, and also not allow sufficient hormones in mommas system to start labor causing harm to the unborn puppy and mom. We fretted for the weeks looming prior to the due date... monitored closely... and opted for a voluntary c-section. Prior to the date of the C-section, we took a beautiful ride to Dolly Sods, an almost magical place in the mountains of West Virginia (with Rosie in tow!). We had hopes the scenic mountain journey would start labor naturally.. I mean heck it works for some of us country ladies :) a long walk or hike sometimes gets us going <3. Well as the day turned into night... nope it didnt start anything with Rosie.... after a nail biting c-section... hoping and praying all was well with Rosie and the puppy... I didn't even want to know the details of the puppy when we picked Rosie, up... I had my heart set on a yellow girl, to carry on our legacy... and those of you that follow and know us... well we are most known for having chocolates and blacks... our yellows somehow come about magically like unicorns in the mist... lol...
Well... the suspense was over I opened the towel and there was the fattest little yellow girl with pink nose and toes... and I was over the moon happy... so named her after our mountain journey from the day before.
Wait... it doesn't end there!!! LOL ! Unfortunately the lack of labor causing hormones also did not trigger milk production in Rosie... 48 hours after Dolly was born she had begun to lose weight... I had tried giving her formula but she nearly aspirated... and then was too weak to suck.... so an emergency vet visit with some additional fluids to get her going and she began to take to the bottle beautifully... so you see she is extra special... because I now had a little golden girl to raise... we spent many hours, nights... weeks.. and a couple months later she was just as beautiful as can be and we cherish her!!!
Dolly is a special girl for sure, as her mom Rosie was born with us and I also raised her mother Lady <3 We are super excited to see 4th generation from this show stopper girl! <3
